Exporting tomato purée and paste to Europe

European import of tomato purée and paste is expected to increase at a rate of 3-5% annually in the long term. This expected growth is driven by the rising production costs faced by European tomato processors, caused by multiple environmental and legislative challenges. Another driving force is the higher consumption of ready-made meals, soups and tomato-based sauces. Opportunities for new developing-country suppliers can be found in offering sustainably produced tomato purée and paste to processing markets like Italy and Spain, as well as to consuming markets like Germany and the United Kingdom. New suppliers must be aware of the strong price competition from China.
