Exporting olive oil to Europe
Olive oil continues to grow in popularity in Europe. The war in Ukraine, in particular, has resulted in limited stocks of vegetable oil, especially sunflower oil, in the region. Many consumers are switching to olive oil as a substitute. This has created an opportunity for olive oil producers and exporters, at least in the short term.
The top six European markets for olive oil are Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Portugal and the United Kingdom. New suppliers must be able to compete with producers from Spain, Greece, Italy, Tunisia and Portugal through ongoing investments in industry-leading technology to ensure sustained, quality production. Participating in international fairs and organisations that are recognised in Europe may help to boost their image.
