Morocco’s olive oil sector offers great potential for economic growth and job creation. Olive oil is an important food product in Morocco. The global market, too, is more and more asking for high-quality extra virgin olive oil. CBI is now looking for partners to join its AnMOON project to support the sector in becoming future-proof. This will also create job opportunities for young people.

In this project, CBI supports Moroccan small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The aim is to transform Morocco's olive oil sector into a more resilient and sustainable one.

Now calling for SMEs

Are you an olive oil-producing, small or medium-sized enterprise (SME)? And, are you interested in joining this project? Please express your interest by 31 October 2024, via the button below.

Project details

AnMOON focuses on involving youth in the olive oil sector and dealing with climate change. The project started in 2023 and will run until 2028. Together with partners, AnMOON will work to:

  • Adjust production practices and efficient resource processes for a resilient and future-proof sector;
  • Develop a growth strategy focused on economic and environmental opportunities, including youth;
  • Support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in diversifying their markets;
  • Strengthening SMEs' value chains so that they can grow and address various challenges;
  • Develop decent employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for youth in the olive oil sector.

This will help the sector become (climate) resilient and sustainable.

Approach

We want to achieve this as follows:

  1. Service delivery: Promote service delivery by young entrepreneurs who address value chain challenges related to market diversification (exports), climate resilience, resource efficiency and youth inclusion.
  2. Future-proof value chain: Ensure resilience and sustainability in response to future challenges and changes.
  3. Youth Inclusion: Aligning relevant stakeholders in Fez-Meknes to support youth inclusion in the olive oil sector, both as employees and service providers.

Activities

During the implementation phase, we aim to carry out the following activities:

  • Involve project participants from the Moroccan olive oil sector. We are targeting SMEs with an interest in sustainability, exports and youth inclusion;
  • Work with schools, universities, and employers to improve the match between graduates and jobs, for example, through internships and traineeships.
  • Work with the stakeholders to see how the sector can become more inclusive for young people.
  • We will work with young service providers and innovators to support the design of agri-tech solutions to make the sector future-proof and ready for diverse markets.

Project participants and partners

In the course of this project, CBI will involve the following stakeholders and partners:

  • (Now calling) olive oil producers (SMEs and large mills);
  • Moroccan service providers, both public and private;
  • Incubators/accelerators
