Do you own a small or medium-sized IT company based in Ghana? Are you interested in improving your market position in the European Union (EU)? And are you looking to improve your HR practices to better attract and retain talented young IT professionals?  CBI can support you. Through the IT Ghana project, CBI offers valuable opportunities for companies like yours. Such as:

  • Finding out which opportunities there are for your company on the European market;
  • Information on European regulations and requirements;
  • Learn everything you need to know to be a successful exporter;
  • Getting assistance from our sector experts to strengthen your organisation’s internal capacity to serve global clients;
  • Developing your company’s international exposure.

CBI is a programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The programme helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) find international market opportunities, particularly in Europe. It offers services like:

  • Market entry information;
  • Export coaching;
  • Trade events facilitation. 

In Ghana, CBI is specially working with tech companies or IT organisations looking to expand into EU markets with tech solutions, remote talents and (other) related services.

Project details

The project focuses on supporting SMEs connect to the growing outsourcing and IT services sector in Europe.

We support IT companies in Ghana grow their businesses by applying:

  • Innovative technologies;
  • Specialised services;
  • Market research. 

Companies that join the project will benefit from skilled young IT professionals, helping them to grow their business faster. We will achieve this by:

  • Creating new supporting services and strengthening existing services that benefit the entire sector and are accessible to SMEs;
  • Creating resilience by supporting effective organisation, coordination and collaboration between stakeholders.
  • This helps improve support and service delivery;
    Facilitating effective market linkage, allowing Ghanaian IT companies to export their services more efficiently. 

The project will strengthen the IT sector in Ghana and help it become more stable, sustainable and inclusive.

What can you expect from the CBI project?

CBI offers technical assistance through practical business export coaching. CBI prepares your company with the skills and knowledge you need to enter the European market. The project includes:

  • Individual company coaching provided by highly qualified international experts. We focus on attracting and training young IT professionals to serve European clients;
  • Support in developing your company’s export marketing plan;
  • Practical guidance in using the export plan and initiating commercial activities;
  • Support with improving your company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy;
  • Participating in a peer learning network (Community of Practice) with like-minded companies. This allows your company to exchange insights on sustainable HR strategies and inclusive talent development.

Who can apply for this project?

You can apply for this project if your company meets these requirements:

  • Type of company;
    o    SMEs with at least 10 but no more than 250 full-time employees;
    o    At least 51% of the company is locally owned and has a local management structure;
    o    Offers ICT-related products and wants to enter the European markets, or is already exporting.
    o    Established since at least 2 years ago.
  • No joint venture with an organisation based in a non-developing country;
  • No licensing commitments that forbid or limit exports to the EU;
  • Management that can communicate in English.

What do we expect from you?

CBI is looking for ambitious and highly motivated IT SMEs that are leaders in the sector and with a management team that:

  • Wants to engage with other companies to share good practices in areas like sustainable HR and inclusive talent development;
  • Is interested in setting up internships for staff development, diversity, and youth empowerment;
  • Is ready to improve their corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices;
  • Will actively participate in CBI visits, workshops, and training sessions (all in English);
  • Is willing to invest in their export marketing plan;
  • Is committed to making necessary changes to succeed in the European market and improve sustainability;
  • Will provide their company's name, logo, and achievements for project promotion.

Companies that have already completed some of the suggested activities are still welcome. CBI will develop a programme based on their specific needs and priorities.

Costs

You do not have to pay a fee to take part in this project. CBI will finance most project costs. But participants must pay for the following costs, if needed:

  • Flights and other travel expenses for European market entry activities;
  • Investments in product offers, first-time job seekers, employees, certification, and so on;
  • Domestic travel expenses if training sessions are outside your city.
