CBI is looking for experts to promote sustainable production practices for improved water management and environmentally friendly dyeing methods in Bangladesh's home textile craft sector.

We are looking for experts who can:

  • Provide systems change support to make the home textile craft sector more sustainable;
  • Support local projects that support a sustainable home textile craft sector;
  • Contribute to building a sustainable home textile craft sector. Also help create business models that are good for the environment, business coaching and finding new markets for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) that export home textile craft;
  • Support the sector in improving the use of natural dyes in home textile products. The expert does this by finding new ideas, improving the dyeing process, supporting the sector, coaching businesses and helping small exporters grow their markets;
  • Provide coaching for local businesses by locals. 

About the project 

This 5-year project supports SMEs in the Bangladeshi home textile craft sector in working more sustainably. Its focus is on better water use and more environmentally friendly dyeing methods. This project will:

  • Support SMEs in making business models that follow environmental rules. The project pays attention to the challenges of companies using chemical dye. And opportunities for naturally dyed home textile craft products;
  • Strengthening the people and companies involved with the right services and skills. Also, give them tools to deal with water pollution and the high use of drinking and groundwater from chemical dyeing;
  • Improve the support system so SMEs can work with new markets for home textile products made with less water and less pollution;
  • Help companies and groups work together so the sector stays strong in the future. 

Consultant roles

This tender is for 5 types of consultants.

Lot 1

System change expert for sustainable home textile craft ecosystem development 

CBI is looking for an expert who will: 

  • Use systems change strategies to build a strong and sustainable sector where companies feel responsible for protecting the environment and offering good working conditions;
  • Work with important partners in the sector to make sure the results of the project last;
  • Research why the current system does not support companies enough with opportunities and services to follow environmental rules. Also, learn why the help of the system does not lead to new market opportunities for companies that use chemical and natural dyeing;
  • Talk to SMEs to learn about their challenges in following environmental rules and finding market chances with chemical and natural dyeing;
  • Advise public and private service providers on how to make valuable and affordable services that help SMEs with environmental rules, export, finance and market opportunities in dyeing;
  • Help sector stakeholders understand how important it is to meet the European Union's (EU) environmental standards and use cleaner dyeing methods. This will give them new business opportunities in the EU market;
  • Collaborate with sector stakeholders to improve Bangladesh's position and reputation in export markets through (existing) sector branding initiatives;
  • Lead meetings and activities that bring together stakeholders to strategise for future resilience and share ideas to work in a more environmentally friendly way;
  • Work with institutional stakeholders to help the sector become compliant with environmental rules. This can be reached by making a code of conduct or clear sector rules;

Lot 2

Local system change expert for sustainable home textile craft ecosystem development 

CBI is looking for an expert who will:

  • Coordinate project activities for ecosystem development and organise logistics to make sure everything goes well;
  • Work with stakeholders to help them take part in the project and stay committed to the project goals;
  • Give follow-up coaching to sector stakeholders when needed;
  • Support research to help with the strategy and making the right project decisions.

Lot 3

Sector expert for sustainable chemical dyeing ecosystem development. 

CBI is looking for an expert who will:

  • Work closely with home textile craft SMEs that use the chemical dyeing segment to help make business models that follow EU environmental rules;
  • Find and involve important people and organisations within the chemical dyeing part of the sector to support the move towards better environmental compliance. Also, help make joint solutions for environmental compliance;
  • Help find and share good examples from SMEs on how to meet environmental rules and make sure these are shared through sector meetings and forums;
  • Create a plan to help companies grow and exit the project. So other companies in the sector can use these examples.
  • Recognise other companies that are interested in the project early. Learn about their interest and needs, and work with the project team to create strategies specially for them;
  • Support a move within the sector towards better working conditions by working with others. Making it possible to share knowledge;
  • Help SMEs comply with the environmental rules of the EU;
  • Advise SMEs on how to grow in the EU market opportunities by using strategies that are friendly to the environment;
  • Coach and support SMEs to help them start and use sustainable business practices.

The focus for this expert will be on environmentally compliant business models, business coaching and market development.

Lot 4

Sector expert in natural dyeing of home textile products. 

CBI is looking for an expert who will:

  • Work closely with home textile craft SMEs that use natural dyes to create business models for environment-friendly natural dyeing and better water use. Both at a level of what the European market wants;
  • Identify and involve important people and organisations in the natural dyeing part of the home textile sector in Bangladesh. This must lead to greener dyeing and better water use and help develop joint solutions and/or services;
  • Help collect and share good examples of natural dyeing and water saving. Also, share these through sector groups and forums;
  • Develop scaling and exit strategies to encourage the adoption of best practices by other companies in Bangladesh's home textile craft sector;
  • Recognise other interested companies early in the project. Learn about their interest and needs, and work with the project team to create strategies specially for them;
  • Support a move within the sector towards better working conditions by collaborating with others, sharing knowledge and helping everyone follow socially responsible practices;
  • Guide SMEs from start to finish to meet EU environmental requirements;
  • Advise SMEs on how to grow in the EU market by using environmentally friendly natural dyeing and good water management;

The focus for this expert will be on eco-friendly dyeing, ecosystem development, business coaching and market development.

Lot 5

Expert in local business coaching implementation

CBI is looking for an expert who will:

  • Coordinate project activities and logistics to make sure everything goes well;
  • Help stakeholders to stay involved and keep their promise to project goals;
  • Coach SMEs and other sector stakeholders as needed;
  • Help with research support to make strategic decisions and project development.
