CBI is looking for experts to help protect Indonesia's coffee sector from the effects of climate change. In this two-year project, we are looking for experts to:

  • Enhance collaboration across North Sumatra and Aceh;
  • Address climate change challenges;
  • Contribute to a more resilient and future-proof coffee industry.

About the Climate-resilient coffee in North Sumatra and Aceh project

The Climate-resilient coffee in North Sumatra and Aceh project focuses on these areas because of the deep cultural ties to coffee. The project starts in September 2025. The goal is to protect Indonesia's coffee sector from the effects of climate change. More and more people want to make the industry stronger and more climate-resilient. But there is still little coordination between companies, NGOs and the government. Previous collaboration attempts did not work. However, rising coffee prices and increasing climate risks present new momentum for action. The experts will help with the following actions:

  • Support talks between stakeholders;
  • Create a shared plan and goals for the sector;
  • Find chances for climate-friendly actions by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

If the project shows results and good opportunities, CBI may consider a follow-up project for up to 3 more years.
