Exporting coffee to Russia
Russia is among the largest coffee importers in Europe. Demand has shown continuous growth over the last years, in part thanks to a strong and growing national coffee industry. In 2019, about 57% of Russian imports were Robusta beans, due to consumers’ preference for instant coffee. Nevertheless, higher-quality roasted coffee is gaining ground, where the market for specialty coffee in Russia is showing constant growth. These trends have driven up the share of Arabica beans imports by Russia over the past years. Moscow and St. Petersburg are the two cities that dominate trends on the Russian coffee market, and are both home to the vibrant and growing coffee shop market in the country.
