Intellectual property rights: The patenting system
|
If your company develops technologically new, cutting-edge products and you want to avoid competitors free-riding on your research and development investments, you should probably find out whether your inventions are sufficiently protected. Patents are used to protect inventions and could avoid others to get away with your technology. Also the other way round, be aware that technologies might be patented and cannot be used freely. This document is an article out of a series on intellectual property rights published in the CBI News Bulletin in 2006. All articles are written by Esteban Burrone from WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation).
