If you are exporting to the EU, you must be aware of the attention EU buyers give to the labour conditions for workers in the operations where their products and supplies are produced. The International Labour Organisation (ILO) is a UN organisation founded to draw up international labour standards and to ensure that the established standards are respected. ILO does so by helping national authorities to implement the standards. Most of the social requirements that are being used in international trade by EU traders are based on the ILO standards.
This document presents a brief description of ILO Labour Standards that are most frequently used and highlights the relevance for producers and exporters to the EU.
