EU legislation: Organic production and labelling

If you export unprocessed agricultural products  (e.g. floriculture products, cotton, fresh fruit and vegetables, honey or aquaculture products) or processed food products (e.g. cocoa, coffee, fruit juices and jams, olive oil and wine) intended to be marketed as organic in the EU, you have to make sure that your products comply with the EU legislation on organic production and labelling. This means that your products:

• must be produced using methods that are accepted by the EU;
• are certified by independent organisations that are approved by the EU; and
• must be properly labelled.

Organic production methods can be complex and not easy to implement This document provides steps to be followed by exporters in developing countries to ensure compliance with the organic requirements and provides practical tools and information.
