EU legislation: Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) in consumer products

If you are an exporter of consumer products such as furniture, footwear and jeans, you need to take into account the EU’s legislation about the use of sachets contained in the packaging of products to prevent deterioration during storage or transport. The substance of these sachets is dimethylfumarate (DMF). Products containing DMF can pose health and safety risks to EU consumers. Therefore, the EU has restricted the market access of the products containing this substance.
This document provides an outline on the DMF prohibition, relevant market access requirements as well as a reference to an acknowledged alternative.
