Environment: Mechanical (primary) industrial waste water treatment

The downloadable document describes the techniques of mechanical (primary) treatment of industrial waste water. The purpose of mechanical or primary treatment is to remove suspended matter like oil and grease and to achieve uniform flows and concentrations. Processes like screening, flow equalisation and settling are described. Primary treatment is often required prior to further treatment steps (e.g. biological and/or physical-chemical treatment). The choice for a method will depend on the amount and contents of the pollution and on the costs and efficiency of implementation.
