Environment: Industrial air pollution treatment

Air pollution may not come to mind as the first priority to many manufacturers, but a number of recent developments worldwide have increased its importance heavily. This means that also manufacturers in developing countries should be aware of air pollution. The main new developments: the greenhouse effect, global warming, depletion of the ozone layer by so called ozone depleting chemicals, acid rain caused by sulphur dioxine and NOx and the occurrence of smog, partially caused by volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

This downloadable document provides several descriptions of methods used for abating air pollution. The choice for a method will depend on the amount and content of the pollution and on the costs and efficiency of implementation. Note that the techniques described in this document are rather specialised. Still the document will give important information for producers in developing countries, since the issue of air pollution is becoming more important.
