Environment: Improvement options for metal
|
The downloadable document describes the process of producing metal products from raw material, and thus for example relevant to the production of castings and forgings. The document starts with a short description of the metal industry and its environmental impacts and environmentally sound production in general. This is followed by a MET matrix. A MET matrix is a relatively simple, and little time consuming, method of listing environmental impacts that should be taken into account. Also a process tree of the metal producing process is given. Each process step is shortly described in order to have a starting point for the description of the environmental aspects which result from the process step. Also several improvement options are provided for each process step. The intention of this document is to give an idea what companies can do to make their products and production process more sound. The improvement options are not meant to give tailor-made solutions.
