CBI SECTOR ALERT ADVISES MANUFACTURERS TO COOPERATE AND PAY ATTENTION TO NEW EU REGULATION IN THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR.July 11, 2008 In the long run, cooperation is a must for exporters to remain competitive. Cost reductions and an increase in risk sharing continue to persist due to several reasons. Therefore, car makers will continue to increase pressure on other parties in the supply chain. These developments seriously endanger the position of SMEs in developing countries, especially those facing a lack of financial means or having difficulties in meeting high quality demands. This sector alert provides a number of recommendations that may help strengthening the position of SMEs which are active in the mobile equipment sector. Secondly, a new EU regulation on spare parts has now come into force, enabling independent repair shops to conquer business from official dealer garages. Two new opportunities for the independent aftermarket are expected to occur. Therefore it is important to bring this new EU legislation to the attention of your exporters.
